Tech Tip:

To prevent premature sprocket wear on your brake rotor always be sure your chains are properly adjusted to the 1/8" - 1/4" of free play in the center of your chain. Never over tighten the chains as this can cause your bearings that support the idler shaft to fail. Always torque your transmission horizontal bolt to 80 FT/LBS. Over tightening can cause the frame to bend in and allows the transmission to constantly slip down giving you loose idler chains. Proper lubrication every 10 - 15 hours will keep the chains from drying out and wearing the metal. Don't let chain lube over-spray get on your brake rotors.

If your vehicle stops turning to the left or right, it's common to see the teeth eaten off a rotor not allowing the power to reach the driver chains or bad seals in your master cylinders. If your sprocket teeth on the brake rotors are getting razor blade sharp at the tips, replace the rotors immediately. If the sprocket shows this wear always replace your idler chain when replacing the rotor. These sprockets/brake rotors are the lifeline allowing the vehicle to drive.
